A Favorite Kentucky Derby Tradition

Although the Kentucky Derby is known for its many traditions; such as the winner's blanket of 554 roses, the stylish hats and jockey silks, the one that seems to stand out most is the mint julep.

Refreshing and tasty, mint juleps can enjoyed be watching the Kentucky Derby or on a hot summer day.

Ingredients
10 fresh mint leaves
1 teaspoon sugar
5-6 crushed ice cubes
2 ounces bourbon

Directions
 Put the sugar and mint leaves in the bottom of a  glass and mash with a teaspoon. 

Wrap the ice cubes in a a towel and smash them a couple timed with a hammer or a frying pan.It is crucial that the ice be cracked - not crushed, not cubed.

Fill the glass to the top with the cracked ice.

Take a spoon and muddle (bruise the mint and sugar in the bottom of the glass for 10 seconds.

Drop the bourbon and stir and enjoy!
