Basil Julep

This cocktail is a Southern and Derby favorite. The Basil Julep, with its somewhat mild flavor and earthy aroma of basil, is guaranteed to  enhance  your next Derby party.

Ingredients 
8 basil leaves, plus 4 for garnish
2 ounces lime juice
6 ounces Irish whiskey
Crushed ice

In a dry bar tin, muddle 8 basil leaves with the lime syrup. Pour in whiskey and stir this mixture for two revolutions. Prepare four julep glasses with a mountain of crushed ice. Pour equal parts into each glass and garnish with remaining basil. Take in the earthy scent before sipping.
