Hemingway Daiquiri

Although I did well in high school English, I never truly loved it until we began a semester of Ernest Hemingway. I could not get enough of his novels. In fact it was probably the only time I was ever ahead in my reading assignments. Ernest Hemingway gifted me with a love of literature.

Years later while vacationing in Florida, Nick surprised me with a road trip to Key West to see one of their famous sunsets and to have a drink at the Hemingway Bar. Needless to say we had to try the Hemingway Daiquiri. The cocktail was refreshing and perfectly matched the vibrant colors of the stunning Key West sunset. Such a magical night; it was as if we had been transported into a Hemingway novel.

Ingredients
1 1/4 ounces of light rum
1/4 cup grapefruit juice
juice of one lime
2 teaspoons maraschino cherry juice
1 maraschino cherry for garnish
Lime wheel, for garnish

Directions

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Add the rum, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and maraschino cherry juice and shake for 10 seconds.

To serve, strain into a glass and garnish with the cherry and the lime wheel.
