The New York Style Hot Dog

It's the most wonderful time of the year - opening day for major league baseball. I can't think of a better meal to begin this season with than the New York Style Hot Dog. This scrumptious hot dog is bursting with the same delectable flavors of New York City's corner stand hot dogs, minus the boiling in dirty water flavor. So delicious, you will want to make these mouth-watering hot dogs throughout the season while rooting for your favorite New York team.

New York Style Sautéed Onions
Classic bun
All-beef hot dog
Spicy brown mustard
Sauerkraut
Prep:
Make sautéed onions according to the recipe.

Assembly
Split open a classic bun. Pan fry an all-beef dog on a flattop; during the last minute of cooking, lightly toast the bun. Place the dog in the bun. Add a slathering of spicy brown mustard to the dog. Top with a handful each of sauerkraut and sautéed onions.

Sautéed Onions
Ingredients
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 large white onions, sliced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Warm olive oil in the skillet over medium-high heat. Cook onions with tomato paste and spices, stirring until soft, translucent, and starting to turn brown on the edges, about 10 to 15 minutes. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
